Outreach Troupe

Works on making it easier for people to enter the community, and making it easier for people to share Raku with their associates.

Purpose§

The purpose of the Outreach troupe is to ensure the future of Raku by:

  • Ensure we have new people flowing into the community (Product Strategy/Marketing)
  • Ensuring it is easy for new members of the Raku community to enter the community and find their way to the places where they best serve either themselves and/or the community (depending on their interests).
  • Enable Sharing: Making it easy for people to share Raku with their colleagues, associates, friends, and other people in their life.
  • Social Cohesion activities

The Entry Pathway§

Look after raku.org to ensure that it's a good front door for newcomers. This includes pathway analysis on raku.org starting with a survey of 404 errors, to see if any need to be replaced with 3xx responses that send the viewer somewhere useful

Volunteer Relations/Social Media§

  • Issue Weekly, cross-post to Reddit
  • Keep YouTube playlists up-to-date

raku.org§

marketing.raku.org§

marketing.raku.org needs a serious update. It's still all about Perl6.

  • Flyers: These essentially just need an update to say "Raku" instead of Perl 6.
  • Brochures: The "Introducing Perl 6" one could do with an update. The other could be moved to an "Historical" section.
  • Teasers: These should also be moved to an "Historical" section
  • Cards: Should be updated
  • Logos: These are up-to-date

We should also make it possible to buy physical copies (could the proceeds go to Raku?).

Possibly we should also look at adopting the following:

Note also the following:

YouTube Playlist§

These are terribly out-of-date (Perl 6, rather than Raku, and 7 years out of date), and will require updating before they can again be used in the documentation/outreach materials. The current playlists are:

The Medium Term§

It'd be useful to have these updated, and broken into lists of 30-50 items, broken down by topic to a certain extent. For example, there should probably be a "Web Development in Raku" list.

Also, the non-English ones should be broken down by language in cases where there's more than one video in the language.

The Long Term§

Ideally what we'd replace them with is an integration with the Raku documentation (particularly the tutorials), and/or elucid8 (so that the same tech can be used in other raku-related sites). There should be a way to tag the videos (key-value tags) so that they can be associated with particular documents in a useful way. Or people can choose to watch by topic, author, or whatever.
